Recently, someone asked me how we decided to focus Valiant Brokers on the energy sector.
Before answering, I took a moment to reflect on the journey that brought us here. It wasn’t a random decision—it was the result of a strategic vision and a career path that left a lasting mark on me.
From a strategic standpoint, there’s no doubt the energy sector has been—and still is—an area with immense potential. But our decision was also shaped by everything we experienced before founding this company. In this article, I want to share the story that led us to transform how insurance is understood in the sectors of Energy, Mining, Technology, and Agriculture.
The Source: How a Project Full of Challenges and Learning Began
I remember that at the end of 2010, after five transformative years living in London, I was introduced to the insurance world through one of the most sophisticated markets globally. That year, I returned to Argentina—not quite sure where my career would go—but with one clear purpose: I wanted to create real value and make an impact in demanding industries.
Shortly after coming back, I received an email that would prove pivotal: Fernando Rodríguez invited me to bring my experience to the Energy division of Aon Reinsurance. I spent three intense years there, working closely with the Oil & Gas and Energy sectors, just as renewable energy was beginning to emerge in Argentina.
My First Steps into the Energy Sector
Rodríguez played a key role in building teams and enhancing the work culture for leaders in the department where I would begin my journey. At Aon, the focus was on delivering distinctive value through innovative solutions, risk management, and workforce productivity.
While my role there helped me develop deep technical knowledge, I felt a calling to take things further. That drive led me to join a new project.
Motivated by the desire to generate a real impact, I met Christopher Sly. I began managing the insurance program for the largest rig fleet in the region and building an energy client portfolio from the ground up.
In early 2014, I enrolled in the Renewable Energy program at the University of San Andrés, led by Mathias Thamhain—an area I had long been passionate about. This decision came from a place deep within: I’d always been drawn to energy and believed it represented the future of the industry.
During that time, I discovered a career path that aligned with my goals—one defined by transition, change, and innovation.
I came to understand that the shift from traditional energy generation to a new model—centered on innovative methods of renewable generation—had already begun years earlier.
